It was a great weekend in Suncadia this past weekend! Saturday was a beautiful spring day and there were a ton of people enjoying the outdoor pool at the Swim & Fitness Center. A big group staying at Trailhead set up a team-building activity where they played basketball, frisbee golf, kickball, horse shoes, etc. It was great to see everyone out and about enjoying the weather!
Saturday morning my husband and father-in-law played a round of golf while I went to the spa for a Chocolate Mojito facial! I made sure I checked in early so I could take advantage of the Eucalyptus steam room. I found a comfy LoveSac bean bag in front of the fire, sipped on some complimentary Coconut Pouchong tea and let the relaxing begin! (You can buy their teas in the spa’s gift shop, they have a Jasmine Vanilla and Green Tea but my favorite is the Coconut.) My facial was equally relaxing and rejuvinating. The products were from Sweet Beauty, a Seattle based company. I was a little scared of the Chocolate Mojito scent as I don’t usually like the smell of artificial chocolate but this was like being in a chocolate factory! I had to resist the urge of licking my face! For the summer season the spa has some great deals featuring this local product:

After my facial I took my time soaking in the outdoor pools and napping in front of the fire. It was a great way to start the day.
We had lunch at Canary Grill, the restaurant at the Inn. We had our dog with us and we were informed that dogs aren’t allowed on the patio. However, our server told us he could seat us down below the restaurant and still have our dog with us. What a treat that was! We had our own private patio in the sun with a view of Prospector Golf Course. My husband and father-in-law both had the Coal Miner’s Burger and I had the Salmon BLT with avocado. All the sandwiches came with a side of steak fries or breaded onion rings. I ordered the onion rings which were crispy, however be sure to ask for their spicy ranch dipping sauce otherwise they come with ketchup. The sandwich was tasty, they put both grilled salmon and lox, so I got my seafood fix! The server kept the free refills of lemonade coming which was much needed in the hot sun! For dinner we decided to try out Homestead BBQ in Cle Elum. I had read some reviews about how good the ribs and homemade pies were, so I was eager to check it out. The restaurant just re-opened as the owners had been gone for a year, the friendly waitress mentioned they travel a lot and were maybe thinking of selling it. (We’ll keep you posted if it closes!) The restaurant has plenty of tables with plenty of historical decor. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food out to us. They usually have a daily special which was the 1/2 rack of Baby Back Ribs. It comes with a side of watermelon, soup or salad and your choice of potato salad, baked beans, baked potato, or chips. My husband ordered the special with a side salad (with homemade Italian dressing) and it came with TWO scoops of potato salad and TWO pieces of toast. They don’t want you to leave hungry! The ribs were perfectly cooked, juicy and a lot of meat. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich with a side of baked beans. The pork was so tender and flavorful and it came on a toasted hoagie bun. If you love BBQ sauce like I do, I would order a side of sauce to dip it in as it could have used a little more. The sauce is on the sweeter tangier side which I like, my husband prefers his sauce to be smoky. The sauce is available for purchase on line or in the restaurant, a gallon is $23.95 and a pint is $3.85 Also on the menu, BBQ beef sandwich, steak, chicken strips, chili burgers and dogs, and let’s talk about the desserts! Homemade pies: Lemon meringue, cherry, chocolate cream, banana cream, and german chocolate cake! You can order them a la mode, they serve 10 different flavors of Dreyer’s ice cream. We couldn’t eat much more, but we managed to find room for a chocolate and vanilla swirl soft served ice cream cone. We will definitely be back for those pies! The best deal was the ‘Dog Bones for $2.50’ We ordered them for our pup not knowing how many or what we were actually getting. When we opened them up at home, we found 20 large beef rib bones! Our dog enjoyed one that night and we froze the rest of them. What a treat!
After eating our way through the weekend, we decided we will be returning customers at both Canary Grill and Homestead BBQ. And maybe for dessert I’ll do the Chocolate Mojito facial!
